Youth Safeguarding & Volunteer Screening

Care, accountability, and a clear pathway to serve.

Every young person deserves appropriate care, healthy boundaries, and responsible supervision. Learning about Youth Ministry is open to families and prospective volunteers; receiving an assignment involving minors requires a separate ministry review and approval.

Current website safeguards

Interest does not equal approval.

The website requires screening and safeguarding acknowledgments for youth volunteer interest. It requires an adult-interest acknowledgment for adult youth-serving roles and a parent or guardian acknowledgment for family inquiries made on behalf of someone under 18.

The website does not conduct background checks, review references, record training, or approve volunteers. The department serving-interest form is not yet connected to administration; the dedicated prayer-request and testimony forms have separate private submission services. These safeguards are implemented on the website; the ministry’s operational screening procedures have not been verified through it.

A separate screening & approval process

Before a prospective volunteer receives an assignment involving minors, administration must complete and document the applicable review. The following process is a readiness checklist for leadership to approve and implement, rather than a claim that an applicant has been cleared:

  1. Application & identity reviewConfirm adult eligibility, review the application, and obtain informed consent through an approved screening channel. Do not upload identification or screening records to this website.
  2. References & required screeningComplete an interview, reference review, and the background screening required by the ministry’s adopted policy using an authorized process.
  3. Safeguarding preparationDocument training and acknowledgment of conduct, boundaries, supervision, communications, and reporting procedures.
  4. Leadership decisionRecord the authorized reviewer, decision, date, approved role, and any restrictions. An expression of interest never grants approval.
  5. Assignment & ongoing oversightUse an approved volunteer roster, appropriate supervision, and documented review or renewal requirements for the assigned role.

Information for parents & families

Before participation, ask administration about the ministry’s approved child-protection policy, screening requirements, supervision and check-in procedures, authorized pickup, and how concerns are reported. Participation consent and media consent should be addressed separately; a serving-interest acknowledgment is neither.

Discuss a concern or request policy information

Call (469) 372-2404 to reach ministry administration. If a child is in immediate danger, call 911. Contact the appropriate authorities for suspected abuse; an internal ministry inquiry is not a substitute for reporting to them.
